On days like today, the sun seems so far away. Its light pale, its heat lukewarm. On days like today, sometimes the best that can be said is that you survived.

I don’t really have all that much to say today.

It was my mom’s birthday.

And this year, for whatever reason, getting through the holidays is harder than it’s been before.

Today, I was "ducky" – calm on the surface, but paddling madly out of sight just to stay afloat.

Today, I caught every other word. Today, I had to focus really hard to see people. Today was hard. The consolation:

Today is almost over.
